ANNOUNCEMENT
The UC Berkeley Center for Southeast Asia Studies 23rd Annual Conference
will be held on the Berkeley campus on April 6, 2006 - immediately prior to
the annual meeting of the Association of Asian Studies in San Francisco.
The format of the CSEAS conference this year will deviate from recent
years, as it is being designed to coincide with the launch of the "Journal
of Vietnamese Studies" - a new academic journal to be published by UC
Press, with support from the Henry Luce Foundation, and co-edited by Prof.
Peter Zinoman (CSEAS Chair) and Prof. Mariam Beevi Lam (UC Riverside).
The CSEAS conference on April 6th will be a one-day workshop, with invited
papers, on the theme, "Vietnam Studies: States of the Field". Confirmed
speakers include Yen Le Espiritu (UC San Diego), Christopher Goscha
(University of Quebec), Liam Kelley (University of Hawaii), Hy Van Luong
(University of Toronto), David Marr (ANU), Edward Miller (Dartmouth),
Sophie Quinn-Judge (Temple), Helle Rydstrom (Linkoping University), Philip
Taylor (ANU), Keith Taylor (Cornell) and Tuong Vu (Naval Postgraduate
School). The conference will be held in the Heyns Room, UC Faculty Club.
Additional details will be posted on the CSEAS website in February

A launch reception for the new journal will be held during AAS, hosted by
UC Press. Information about this reception will be available in the AAS
meeting program.
