Assistant Professor, Southeast Asian Studies (mainland)

Subject to final budgetary approval, the Department of South and
Southeast Asian Studies at the University of California, Berkeley
invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of
Southeast Asian Studies with a research specialization on one or more
of the Theravada Buddhist countries of Southeast Asia (Thailand,
Burma, Cambodia, Laos). Scholars working on the pre-modern or modern
eras within the fields of literary studies, religious studies, gender
studies, cultural studies or cultural history are especially
encouraged to apply. Knowledge of at least one Southeast Asian
language and its textual traditions is mandatory. The position is to
be effective July 1, 2006.
Send letter outlining teaching and research interests, C.V., complete
dossier, and a writing sample to: Chair Southeast Asia Search,
Department of South and Southeast Asian Studies, University of
California, Berkeley, CA 94720-2540. Applications should be
postmarked by November 15.
